Frequently asked questions -
answered by Pearce and Grandson, experienced sweeps in Kent and London

Q. What should I do to prepare for the chimney sweep?
A. In most cases you will need to leave an area in front of the fireplace about 2 metre
square to give the sweep enough room to work. Hot ash should always be removed
    the night before.

Q. How do I know if my chimney needs sweeping?
A

1. If you find soot is falling on to the fireplace
2. There is a strong smell of soot in the room
3. If you have just moved home and you would like to use your fireplace
4. If you think you have birds or squirrels nesting in your flue.

Q. How often should I have my chimney cleaned?
A.
Smokeless coal - once a year
Wood Fires - once a season when in use
Oil boiler - once a year
Gas Fires - once a year

Q What happens to the soot?
A.
We can take away the soot or leave it for you - some people like to keep it for
